Letter: Gary for Avon Town Council

Avon is home to a lively population and healthy businesses. In our 32 years as Avon residents and business owners, we’ve seen Avon evolve into a wonderful community and one which is worthy of strong representation. Gary Brooks has developed unique expertise as an Avon resident and business owner for over 20 years, serving in both professional and public roles.

In his professional career, Gary has more than 30 years of experience as an engineering consultant, working with town approval processes to design, permit and implement community housing projects throughout the county. He understands how livability, affordability and sustainability are enhanced through thoughtful planning and community input. With the town of Avon’s goal of more community housing, Gary will be an asset to the Town Council’s decision-making process.

Gary has been a member of the Eagle County Housing and Development Authority Advisory Committee for eight years. This role exposed him to the challenges and opportunities in acquiring and developing workforce housing and guided the implementation of the highly integrated and successful Bold Housing Moves initiative.

Expanding on his love of fishing and river recreating, Gary applies his professional knowledge of hydrology and water quality to engaging with the Eagle River Coalition as a seven-year board member and volunteer. Gary is the current board vice president and helped develop the Gore Creek Restoration Plan that resulted in significant investment by the town of Vail, and the recently completed Eagle River Community Water Plan.

Gary is also a current board member of the ECO Trails committee, which is nearing completion of the regional path system that connects the length of our valley, supporting businesses and providing sustainable options for both commuters and recreators.
