UPS store in Avon closes, with customers being referred to the store in Edwards
Stores in Vail and Edwards remain open
The UPS store in Avon closed Thursday, April 4, while the stores in Edwards and Vail, owned by the same franchisee, remain open.
Kristin Anderson, a representative of the franchise owner, said the Avon location would open for limited hours on Saturday, April 6, and will be open the week of April 8, probably between 3 and 6 p.m. to allow customers to pick up mail and packages. But, she added, those hours will be posted on the door.
Anderson said most customers of the Avon store are choosing to move their business to the Edwards location. People with mailbox rental contracts at the Avon store will have those contracts honored at the Edwards store. Anderson said that the store has enough postal box capacity to take care of the Avon customers, adding that the local post office is also an option for those customers.
Anderson said the franchise owner is currently 85 years old and has operated the Vail Valley stores for about 25 years. Anderson said the franchisee has for some time been looking for a buyer for the Vail Valley stores, working with UPS corporate to find someone to take over. Anderson added she wasn’t able to comment on the ownership status of the Vail and Edwards stores.
UPS corporate didn’t respond to two Friday emails and a voice message seeking comment on the status of those stores.

Anderson said the franchise owner understands that many customers in Avon can be gone for weeks or months at a time. “We’ve been in touch” with them, she said, adding that store personnel are being told to hold items in Edwards.
“We’re handling things on a case-by-case basis,” she said. The Vail Valley franchise owner this week also closed a UPS store in Dillon, with mailbox contracts being honored in Vail, 33 miles away
