Charlie Strauch’s hat trick fueled Battle Mountain to a 3-1 win over Cheyenne Mountain on Friday in Edwards. Strauch scored twice off of assists from Jakob Methvin, and tallied another goal off a pass from Grey Glowacki.

“Fantastic effort by the boys,” head coach Dave Cope stated after the game.

Battle Mountain gave up the first goal of the game to the Red-Tailed Hawks, who were the No. 4 seed in last year’s state tournament and made it to the quarterfinals.

“Went down 0-1 and it didn’t phase us,” Cope continued. “We were able to match their physicality and show our quality.”

Cope was happy to see Strauch notch his first varsity hat trick.

“He has been around the programs for years,” Cope said. “First as a ball boy in middle school, then up through junior varsity and as a sub on varsity and now as a starter.”

The Huskies improved to 3-3 on the year and are currently sitting in the No. 13 spot in the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.
