Battle Mountain track and field star Tyler Heimerl broke the long jump school record at the Broomfield Shootout on March 22.

The senior leapt 17 feet, 6 3/4 inches on her third attempt to break Sabrina Sutter’s 2019 mark of 17-4 3/4. The Husky finished fourth overall at the meet as Niwot’s Eliana Henriques went 18-1 1/2 to claim the win.

Heimerl posted a 17-5 and 17-3 1/4 on her first two jumps. On her record leap, she had tail wind of 2.0 meters per second, the exact legal limit for state-qualifying purposes in Colorado.

Heimerl, who competed in the long, triple and high jump at the 2023 4A state track meet, also has personal bests of 5-4 and 35-3 for the high and triple jump, respectively. Two-time steeplechase Olympian Val Constien set the current Battle Mountain triple jump school record (36-3) in 2012 while Donna Mott’s 5-7 high jump mark from 1982 remains unbeaten.

Battle Mountain finished 28th out of 32 teams on the girls side while the Eagle Valley boys were 11th out of 35 on the boys side.

Durango scored 256 to take the team win while the Huskies carded a cumulative mark of 318 to place fifth. The Huskies hit the links again on March 31 at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction.
  • William Townsend went 2-for-4 from the plate, Shaeffer Dodds drove in three runs and struck out nine in five shutout innings on the mound and Battle Mountain scored four runs in the sixth en route to an 11-0 victory over Meeker on Tuesday.
