Incumbent Matt Scherr spends the least in this year’s campaign for Eagle County commissioner

Challenger mostly self-funding his campaign

Looking at the latest state campaign spending data, incumbent Eagle County Commissioner Matt Scherr has spent the least in his bid for reelection to the Eagle County Board of Commissioners.

According to the Nov. 1 filings, Scherr has raised a total of $12,375 and spent $11,527. There were no contributions over $500 on the Nov. 1 report. Expenses on the Nov. 1 report included $990 to the Aspen Daily News, $416 to Colorado Mountain News Media for digital advertising and $3,015 to Colorado Mountain News Media for print advertising.

In the previous report, filed Oct. 15, Scherr reported a contribution of $1,425 from Ross Blankenship, a $1,000 contribution from Merv Lapin, and $500 contributions from Christina Lautenberg, Richard Agett and Karen Hedlund.



Scherr received a number of smaller contributions from other donors.

Gregg Cooper, Scherr’s Republican challenger for the District 1 seat, is mostly self-financing his run for office.

According to the Nov. 1 report, Cooper is reporting contributions of $33,869 and expenditures of $31,869.

The biggest expenses on the Nov. 1 report are $7,359 to Swift Communications for print advertising and $1,749 to Envisions Signs and Graphics. Cooper has spent $1,826 with Always Mountain Time and $880 with KNS Broadcasting. There have been other expenses for Facebook and other digital ads.

Tom Boyd is the sole candidate and presumptive winner in the election for the District 2 commissioner seat. Boyd was the winner of June’s Democratic primary, and raised and spent more than $31,000 in that race.
