Eagle County detectives find 111 pounds of cocaine hidden in car pulled over for erratic driving on I-70
The Gore Range All Narcotics Interdiction Task Force on Tuesday, April 1, seized 111 pounds of cocaine hidden in a vehicle.
The incident began at about 9:50 a.m. that day when a detective pulled a vehicle over for not staying in its lane on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 140. During the stop, the driver made statements that raised suspicions of further criminal activity.
After giving a warning for the traffic violation, the detective brought in a trained narcotics detection dog to inspect the vehicle. The dog signaled the potential presence of drugs, leading to a search. That search revealed 44 individually wrapped packages containing a total of 111 pounds of a substance that tested presumptively positive for cocaine.
The driver, Scott Douglas Robinson, 34, of Ontario, Canada, was taken into custody and transported to the Eagle County Detention Facility. He is being held on a $1 million bond and faces the following charges:
- Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine), a Class 1 Drug Felony
- Special Offender (Cocaine), a Class 1 Drug Felony
- Conspiracy, a Class 1 Drug Felony
The G.R.A.N.I.T.E Task Force is made up of officers in the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and the Vail Police Department.
