Drug task force seizes over 10,000 fentanyl pills on I-70 near Avon

The Gore Range Narcotic Interdiction Team seized over 10,000 fentanyl pills in a traffic stop on Friday, July 26, on Interstate 70 near Avon, according to a release from Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

A member of the multi-jurisdictional drug task force intercepted a vehicle around 10:20 a.m. The deputy obtained consent from the driver and passenger to search the vehicle. The search yielded a small caliber pistol and an estimated 10,000 pills, or 1,084 grams (2.6 pounds), which tested presumptively as fentanyl.

The driver, David Ramos Palma, age 28, and passenger, Edwin Armando Aguilar Cruz, age 30, both of Ventura, California, were arrested and each are being held on a $25,000 bond. They are facing the following charges:



  • Unlawful distribution of controlled substance (fentanyl) — a class 1 drug felony
  • Special offender (gun) — a class 1 drug felony
  • Special offender (fentanyl) — a class 1 drug felony
  • Conspiracy — a class 1 drug felony
  • Unlawful possession (fentanyl) — a class 4 drug felony
