Vail Comedy Show is flying in Dan Altano for a show on Thursday, March 20. Altano will perform at Avanti Food and Beverage, the new food hall at the base of Golden Peak in Vail Village. Altano released a #1 comedy album titled “Stand-Up Dad” that can be heard on SiriusXM radio. Special Guests Lane Lonion and Emma Cricket will also perform. Mark Masters will host the shows.
Have you ever performed in the Vail Valley?
I’ve never performed in Vail Valley before but I absolutely can’t wait to make my debut. I’ve heard incredible things about comedy crowds in Vail and so many of my peers have raved about the Vail Comedy Festival. Needless to say, when I received the call that my 2025 headlining tour was coming to Vail, I was thrilled. Growing up in northern New Jersey, I often heard the term “We winter in Vail” from avid skiers and snowboarders in my area. Because my family couldn’t afford to “winter” much farther than our driveway, I never went as a kid. I think it’s pretty cool that the jokes I wrote have made it possible for me to finally see what the hype is all about.
Do you have a favorite Colorado comedy memory?
The last time I was in Denver was in 2024 to perform with local comedians Zac Maas and Mark Masters who are both fantastic people and comedians. Performing with them made the night special, but the icing on the cake was that so many people I grew up with and used to work with have since moved out to Denver. Although I was far from the east coast, walking on stage and looking out into the crowd to see so many familiar faces made the whole thing feel like a local show. It was one of my favorite shows last year.

What can audiences expect from your 2025 headlining tour?
Following up from my debut comedy special, “Stand-Up Dad” (playing on constant rotation on Sirius XM radio and available on YouTube), I’ve since begun my 40s (I’m 41) and I’ve been having so much fun exploring how funny it is to enter what I see as the second half of my life (hopefully). As a husband, a father, and a comedian, I can’t help but share stories of the hilarious mistakes I’ve made on my way to embracing adulthood. I think through pointing out my imperfections, I make it OK for people to laugh at theirs. For example, I’m aging and I’ve never been happier. I think so many people nowadays try not to age. They get plastic surgery, hair plugs and use filters on all their photos. But I think instead of hiding it, I’ve been having a blast laughing at the silliness of it all. I also think there are so many positives to getting older. Like knowing who you are, saying no to plans, and realizing that comfort-soft shoes are amazing.
What do you know about Vail Comedy Show?
Every single time I speak with a comedian about Vail Comedy Show, they talk about how much fun they are and that I have to do it some time. Well, that time is now and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Their reputation is great and that makes this whole thing so exciting. What’s also so cool about these shows is that they pop up in different places around Vail. Avanti F + B has a reputation as being a super fun venue and feels like the perfect fit.
You live in New York City now but tour nationally. How does Colorado compare to other markets?
I just think that Colorado crowds have this amazing combination of being super smart, fun and welcoming. It always feels like a home game when I’m here and I circle these dates on the calendar each year because I can’t wait to be back. Every time I meet someone from Colorado, what I notice the most is that they have a great sense of humor and have no problem laughing at themselves. That’s my kind of person.
How would you describe your comedy?
I would describe my style of comedy as high energy, witty, self-deprecating and super fun. I talk a lot about life’s small moments, and I have no problem at all being the butt of the joke. I’m a pretty positive person, and I think that translates on stage. I honestly just want people to come laugh at the absurdity of life and not take themselves too seriously.
What is next for Dan Altano?
My “Somebody” headlining tour is going all over the country right now. I’ll soon be making stops on the east coast (New Jersey, New York, Connecticut) and will be making sweeps through Boise, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Utah, Houston, Tampa Bay and Orlando, and many more!
Vail Comedy Show runs events year round. On March 23, Carmen Lagala from New York City will be at El Sabor for a special Mountain Pride event. On April 17, Rojo Perez from The Tonight Show will be doing shows in English and in Spanish in Vail Village during Easter week. Perez will perform in Avon on April 16. Vail Comedy Festival will return Memorial Day Weekend.
