Project Funway

Get ready to be wowed by the fashions at Project Funway, which returns to Dobson Arena again this Saturday. One of the most creative fundraisers in the Vail Valley, Project Funway asks participants to craft designs out of “anything but fabric” and in the past 13 years the event has been held, there have been some interesting creations. We’ve seen outfits made out of pickleballs and pickleball nets, zippers paired with safety pins and duct tape, soda cans and bottle caps, even Starbucks plastic cups and coffee beans.

The ideas are endless and showcase the creativity in three categories: youth ages 12 and under, teens ages 13-18 and adults ages 19 and older. Prizes will be awarded in each category and for Best in Show.

This fabric-less fashion show benefits the Education Foundation of Eagle County (EFEC). The mission of this grass roots nonprofit is to support local students and teachers, filling a gap created by a shortage of funding. By buying tickets, bidding on auction items or participating in the fashion show, you are helping out our local schools.

The Education Foundation of Eagle County pulls out all the stops to transform the Dobson Arena into a fashion show venue and party place. The 14th annual event is bringing back the models, the catwalk, the drum line, the hair and makeup and the celebrity judges. Mondo Guerra will be back again. He was runner up on “Project Runway” and won “Project Runway All Stars” during Season 1.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until about 9:30 p.m. It’s a ton of fun and a treat for the whole family to see all the creativity. For tickets and event information go to ProjectFunway.org.

Kevin Nealon

The Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek just hosted comedian Jerry Seinfeld last Friday and this Friday Kevin Nealon takes the stage at 7 p.m. The Emmy and SAG-nominated actor and comedian will share stories of his touring days and film career and 9-year stint on “Saturday Night Live.” Nealon was on the late-night sketch comedy show from 1986 to 1995, anchoring the Weekend Update series. He also went on to appear in several films including the “Happy Madison” movies and starred as Doug Wilson in Showtime’s “Weeds.” Who knows, maybe the “Hiking with Kevin” star will do a little hiking for his current digital series while in the mountains of Colorado. Tickets are limited and for more mature audiences. For more information, go to VilarPAC.org.

Carmen Lagala

Vail Comedy Show is flying in Carmen Lagala for a show on Sunday. Lagala will perform at El Sabor in Lionshead. Lagala has a special on YouTube called “Sweet Batch” and has appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Special guests Corey Tindall and Kyle Ruff will also perform and the creator of the Vail Comedy Show, Mark Masters, will host.

Lagala has performed at the Vail Comedy Festival, which happens each Memorial Day Weekend.

“Colorado is one of the best states for comedy. Comedians talk about it all the time – the audiences are smart, down to get weird and frankly, in way better shape than any other state. Coloradans have better calf muscles than any other state,” Lagala said.

Tickets are available at VailComedyShow.com.
