Beyond Golf restaurant now open in Eagle Ranch

Swinging the golf clubs will have to wait, as the simulators won’t be ready until September

There’s a new restaurant to add to your downvalley rotation of eateries: Beyond Golf is now open in Eagle Ranch.

Taking over the space that most recently housed El Segundo and 7 Hermits Brewing Company prior to that, Beyond Golf is serving up an extensive menu along with a bar pouring popular macrobrews like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Coors, microbrews from Gypsum’s Eagle River Brewing Company and more. The golf portion of Beyond Golf will be available in September, once the golf simulators are in place. But, Tom Galvin, who owns Beyond Golf with his son Josh, said they are excited to get the restaurant up and running for summer.

Beyond Golf started in the suburbs of Omaha, Nebraska in 2009, primarily as a place to swing the golf clubs during Midwest winters. The idea to open a location in Eagle was the elder Galvin’s idea.

“I’ve been living part time in Eagle since 2016, after being invited to stay at a friend’s place one summer. I lived in Dallas at the time and once I returned to the heat of Texas I decided to spend more time here,” Galvin said. “I loved going to Boneyard – actually, it was Dusty Boot first, then Boneyard and now it’s Capitol Public House. I’d go to Luigi’s back then and 7 Hermits, I liked all those places, but I always thought the space where 7 Hermits was would make a great location for Beyond Golf someday.”

That someday happened after El Segundo left the space last fall and the Galvins were able to get a lease for the location on the corner of Capitol Street and Founders Avenue. In January of this year, work began to revamp the interior a bit.

“We grinded down the concrete floors and stained them basically the same color we have in Omaha, painted all the walls using the same colors that we used in Omaha, redid the bar, put on a granite countertop and got some new equipment,” Galvin said. “We bought a smoker, an indoor smoker that sits in the kitchen. It’s an electric, self-contained smoker so you don’t have smoke all over the place.”

“From the smoked chicken to the smoked brisket to the smoked wings to the pastrami, everything is made fresh,” Galvin said. “The sauces are all made from recipes that have been tried and tested for years. A couple of my friends that have been in since we opened rave about the pork poblano soup. We’re excited to bring the Beyond Golf menu to Eagle.”

Galvin said they plan on adding live music this summer and brunch on the weekends could start as early as May. The golf simulators will come later, which was the original plan. The simulators are from a company called GOLFZON and are being manufactured in South Korea.

“These are top-of-the-line simulators where the stance plate is on hydraulics, and it will literally move to give you side lies, downhill lies, uphill lies, so it mimics being out on the course. Then, there’s a different mat for hitting the ball out of the sand, or in the rough,” Galvin said. “These simulators will also have automatic ball retrievers where you actually hit the ball into the screen and then it drops down and it returns into a slot and the ball itself pops back up on a tee, so you’re not chasing golf balls around.”

Josh Galvin, left, and his father, Tom Galvin have been dreaming about opening up a Colorado location for Beyond Golf in this space for years. Beyond Golf got its start in Omaha, Neb. in 2009.

Galvin said they hope to have the new simulators up in mid-September with league play starting in October.

“You basically sign up for a league and your group has the same tee time on the same night and it’s kind of just like a regular golf league except it’s indoors on a simulator and you can play all sorts of golf courses offered,” Galvin said. “And, here you have your beer served to you, you don’t have to wait for a beverage cart to come around.”

Currently, Beyond Golf is open for lunch and dinner daily, and no tee time necessary.
