VAIL — Masters Gallery in Vail will welcome back contemporary pop artist DeVon today and Saturday.

Fresh from a one-man show in New York City, the artist brings a new collection to Vail that embraces beloved pop icons, including Captain America and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Meet DeVon at the gallery and see his new works.

Following in the vein of Andy Warhol, DeVon has been heavily influenced by Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein. Having taken inspiration from these late and influential artists, DeVon completes the piece with his collage work acting as the water beneath, carrying the weight of the story.

DeVon’s dreamlike images begin with a superhero, Hollywood star or rock legend. He then creates layers upon layers with images, crystals and veils, among other materials, to bring the fine balance and great detail that his works brings forth. The artist’s depictions hold a world rich with references to common personal dreams, such as flying, shadow sides and the collective unconscious.

“It’s just my way to make a difference, to tell people to wake up and live their life as if it was their own heroic story,” he said.
