Vail’s El Sabor brings Latin American flavor to Lionshead

It’s hard to call El Sabor a hidden gem of Vail when all you have to do is “hit the bridge and make a left” when skiing or snowboarding down from the mountain and into Lionshead Village. But the family-friendly restaurant and bar truly is a gem of Vail, with a window-lined dining room overlooking the Gore Creek and snow-covered mountains. The menu incorporates Latin American flavors and American favorites.

The classic chips and dips, nachos, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas are on the menu, but there’s also some items worth trying for the first time or making your new go-to when dining in Lionshead. Duck wontons are a unique item not easily found in the Rocky Mountains, with duck bacon, sweet corn, cream cheese, orange and Calabrian pepper jam. The adobo cheesesteak wrap is a special swing at a cheesesteak with beef, onions, peppers, lettuce, asadero cheese and aioli.

Rice bowls and salads are also available and go beautifully with the postcard-perfect views from El Sabor.

Dinner offerings round out a menu that hits so many categories that you could come back all winter and try something new every time. Chimichurri ribeyes, New York Cowboy steaks, teriyaki salmon and pork ribs are all favorites at El Sabor.

And, believe it or not, the menu features some of the best burgers in town, including the El Diablo Burger, spicy with green chili crisp, and the California Burger, topped with avocado, pineapple, bacon and a fried egg. And burgers come with a choice: classic style, with fries, or choose corn salad, rice, beans or both.

El Sabor is truly a spot everyone can enjoy.

And did we mention the views? El Sabor is about on-the-mountain as you can get without riding up a chairlift. El Sabor is a short walk (on paved pathways) around the Eagle Bahn Gondola and Born Free Express, or simply make a left after you cross the bridge when skiing or snowboarding down.

The extensive beverage program has a selection of beers, wines, cocktails and specialty hot drinks. There are several margarita options — try a Jalapeño Cucumber or a Texas Top Shelf. Between the scenery, flavorful food and drinks for all ages, dining at El Sabor is an experience both locals and visitors can enjoy.
