If you’re not traveling this season, take a virtual trek across the nation with Skating Club of Vail. It’s spring production, “Coast to Coast: A Road Trip on Ice” will transport you from the nation’s vibrant cities to diverse landscapes, letting the cultural experiences come to life while showcasing the American spirit — all choreographed on ice.
“The audience can expect to hear tunes that represent the road-trip spirit and different locations across the U.S.” said Gretchen Lentz, a Skating Club Vail alum who is directing this year’s show. “From classic rock, to disco, country and pop there’s sure to be something in there from everyone. Some of the songs include “Life is A Highway” by Rascal Flatts, “Car Wash” by Rose Royce, “Vacation” by the Go Go’s, “Welcome to New York” by Taylor Swift and more.”
A wide variety of music and choreography is needed for Skating Club Vail’s production since it’s comprised of 50 skaters from ages 2 to 17. The cast has been rehearsing since February and features both Skating Club of Vail members and skaters from local Learn to Skate programs. Add lighting, special effects and the magic of performing on ice and you’ve got an unforgettable experience.

“The costumes this year are a treat. We’ve got sparkles, sequins, fringe and more. From cowboys and cowgirls to pop stars and disco fever, expect to see it all,” Lentz said.
Helping Lentz are Skating Club of Vail coaches Tara Lane, Courtney Gill, Jenna Beairsto and Ariana Bruno.

“Having grown up in the club and now being able to direct this beloved production is super special,” Lentz said. “The Skating Club of Vail ice show has been a valley tradition for over 30 years.”

Longtime attendees of the ice skating show may notice it’s not at Dobson Ice Arena this year. Due to the renovations of the facility, Skating Club of Vail’s show will be hosted at Mountain Recreation’s Eagle Pool & Ice Rink in Eagle Ranch. Showtimes are 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 for kids and $25 for adults, those 2 years old and younger are free. For more information, go to SkateClubVail.com.
“We are super excited to bring our show downvalley and hope to introduce an entire new group of the county to figure skating. We look forward to returning to Dobson in the spring of 2027,” Lentz said.
