Modern burritos at Vail’s First Chair

First Chair on Bridge Street is designed for people who love spending more time out on the mountain than waiting in lines or sitting down for a meal. Cranking out ready-to-go burritos with modern twists, and steps away from Gondola One, First Chair burritos are made for skiers and snowboarder by skiers and snowboarders.

“We’re trying to bring back that old vibe of just being fun and relaxed,” says Owner Drew Riley, a Vail Valley native who also runs Los Amigos and Russell’s Steakhouse.

Quick. Affordable. Delicious. Those three words sum up First Chair in Vail. And, made to eat on chairlifts, with the ingredients packaged perfectly into a snug burrito.

With a background in the local food scene, Riley and his team have come up with a menu that will see a couple of mainstays and a couple rotating burritos throughout the season. And as always, the breakfast burritos are available all day.

“The options are sort of limitless on what you can put into a burrito.” Drew Riley, co-owner

Breakfast burritos staying on the menu include The Hangover with bacon, sausage, ham, green peppers, onions, potatoes, pancakes, eggs and cheddar cheese; The Classic with bacon, potato hash, eggs and cheddar cheese; and The Basic, with potato hash, eggs and cheddar cheese.

But be prepared for more breakfast burritos to be added to the menu this winter. Steak and eggs, chicken and biscuits, Colorado green chile, and a croissant burrito are all coming to First Chair – among other wildly unique-yet-classic burritos.

“The options are sort of limitless on what you can put into a burrito,” Riley says, bringing to fruition what everyone has thought at some point. “You can literally do anything in a burrito.”

Over Thanksgiving, First Chair made special burritos with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce.

Lunch and dinner mainstays include a Chicken Caesar Burrito (served cold); and the Burger Smash, with smashed burger meat, fries, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion, American cheese, fried egg and a special sauce. The Falafel Burrito is a vegetarian option.

First Chair’s lunch menu will also feature rotating burritos like the return of the Tokyo Chicken, which has rice, macaroni salad, cabbage, chicken and katsu sauce. The popular Nashville Hot is also making a return. And new this winter, a Philly cheesesteak-style burrito, a Cuban and some classic Mexican burritos.

Even though First Chair is designed for grab-and-go, there’s also a welcoming dining and bar area to kick back right next to the mountain. Order your favorite burrito as nachos, if you like. Live music and DJs play every day, 3-5 p.m. And the free chocolate chip cookies daily during après make for another reason to chill at First Chair.

This winter, Riley and his team are saying goodbye to Los Amigos – a longtime iconic restaurant in the valley with one of the best decks around. Be sure to stop by there one last time this winter, and make your inaugural trip to First Chair if you haven’t already. Be ready for a new favorite burrito to wolf down on the chairlift – or gondola – this winter.
