Draft of new Vail Open Lands Plan is available for public review and comment

VAIL — The 2017 Town of Vail Open Lands Plan Update is now available for public review and comment.

The draft plan, available for download at vailgov.com/openlandsupdate, will be reviewed by the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission on Monday, Nov. 13. The community is encouraged to participate in the review of this plan by the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission and Vail Town Council.

The process of updating the town’s 1994 Comprehensive Open Lands Plan has involved extensive public input, including open houses, workshops, and trails scoping sessions. That input has resulted in recommendations to acquire additional parcels for varying public purposes including environmental protection and affordable housing. The draft plan also includes recommendations on the management of the town’s open lands and a conceptual trails plan that includes ideas for the expansion and enhancement of the trail system in and around Vail.

The Planning and Environmental Commission will begin a formal review of the plan at its Nov. 13 meeting. This review will culminate in a recommendation for adoption to the town council. It is anticipated that the town council’s formal review of the plan will begin in December.

Plan comments are being collected online at vailgov.com/openlandsupdate.
