WINTER PARK, Colorado — By virtue of his performance at the J4 Junior Olympics last week in Winter Park, Ski & Snowboard Club’s Alex Leever qualified for the prestigious Whistler Ski Cup next week.
Leever won the second slalom run Saturday, coming in at 38.64, almost a half-second ahead of the next racer. In the first slalom run, Leever took third at 39.12, with the winning mark 38.88. In Friday’s giant slalom races, Leever placed second, just 0.07 seconds off first place, and was fifth.
Other SSCV athletes had good showings, starting with Thursday’s super-G, where Caroline Byrne was third, and on the boys side, Nick Santaniello was fourth, one spot ahead of Thomas Walsh.
Kendall VanHee was second in a giant slalom Saturday, while Santaniello was sixth in a giant slalom, also.
VanHee had another great finish — second — in a slalom Saturday, while Santaniello was eighth one of the slalom races.
